You will serve as a PRODUCUTION SHOP PLANNER (SHIPFITTER) in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will be responsible for compiling work packages that accompany the Task Group Instructions (TGI’s)/Technical Work Documents (TWDs) through the duration of the task execution. You will be responsible for utilizing the project Task Packaging Strategy and sorting the information available in the database to develop task packages for the execution of work. You will be responsible for performing a review of the current scheduled work using the Work Packaging and Control BAIM application software to determine the proper scope for an individual task package. You will be responsible for determining what quality assurance and support documentation is necessary to complete the job and preparing and/or assembling them with the package. You will be responsible for obtaining all work authorization prior to releasing the task package to execution.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: - Developing shop practices for assigned Shipfitting oriented production operations. - Coordinating with planning personnel to verify material and manpower requirements are met to accomplish work operations. - Performing certification records reviews of completed technical work documents for Shipfitter projects. - Monitoring Shipfitting work sites to ensure needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available to accomplish assigned work.
