You will serve as a SHIPFITTER SUPERVISOR I in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will provide first level supervision to Shipfitter shop personnel. You will plan daily and weekly work schedules and establish priorities. You will change work plans, work assignments and methods as necessary to reduce or control costs and maintain work schedules. You will enforce regulation and rules on conduct, safety and housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE, performing duties such as: Developing and modifying, fabricating, repairing, and installing various metal structural parts of ships and other vessels; Determining sequence, priorities and deadlines of scheduled assignments; Estimating material, equipment and manpower needs; Developing and implementing work and safety procedures; Executing administrative functions such as scheduling and approving leave, issuing performance appraisals, deciding conduct related matters, and supporting Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices.
