This position is in the Office of the Director of the Foreign Service Institute. This position develops and implements internal and external strategic communications strategies and products in connection with FSI programs and events, with particular emphasis on internal communications.
Duties
Serves as an expert developing strategic communications for release to ensure FSI programs and activities reflect official policies.
Researches, writes, and edits written products tailored to specific audiences.
Provides expert advice and apprises FSI leadership regarding coverage of FSI programs and initiatives and liaises with other strategic communications offices across the department.
Develops strategic communications for events, prepares promotional materials, and leads special projects.
Develops online content for FSI’s official websites, State.Gov, and social media platforms.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all the qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience functioning as an expert advisor and technical authority in strategic communications.
Experience in web and social media networking strategies, communications processes, and approaches.
Experience working in an international or multicultural environment.
Experience gaining public acceptance with communications in regard to controversial and/or sensitive issues.
Experience responding to questions or criticism on a broad range of issues in structured and unstructured settings.
Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and under-pressure to meet tight deadlines.
There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
