These positions serve as a Visual Information Specialist is a key member of the Medical Media team who serves the hospital's targeted audiences of Veterans, faculty, staff, students, researchers, and community members at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS) campus and CBOC's in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The primary purpose of the position is to provide photographic, video, audiovisual, and graphic design services, and products in support of direct and indirect patient care, research, administrative, training, academic and public affairs purposes, applying the appropriate rules/regulations used in conducting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) business. Assignments cover a variety of subject matter: medical procedures, patient diagnostic imaging, visual aids for teaching programs, scientific research activities, academic affiliations, marketing, social media, and public affairs. Assignments frequently include media support for live events. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Performs complex visual design/display duties on an independent basis that are both internal and external to SLVHCS including working directly with Public Affairs. Provides photography, videography, and production services across the organization with a wide breadth of scope and within many different physical environments. Supports virtual, live, and recorded conferences, trainings, presentations, teleconferences, and meetings. Provides assistance in setting up and operating audiovisual equipment at SLVHCS's main campus as well as all satellite facilities (CBOCS). Coordinates, plans, organizes, and executes formal requests for media productions including but not limited to negotiating content, deadlines, and setting priorities. Maintains operating material inventories and requesting media equipment and supplies while keeping within the fiscal year budget allocations. Ensures consent forms for internal and external use of pictures, video and voice are properly completed, filed, and maintained according to local records management procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: May be authorized for highly qualified applicants. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9) in Federal Service that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Visual Information Specialist GS-11. Specialized experience includes: Producing graphic designs, videos, and photographs; providing oversight of Internet and Intranet sites for Federal compliance; operating video cameras and editing video; developing and producing multimedia products, keeping the public informed of the organization's programs; creating design solutions that have a high visual impact; developing creative ideas and concepts; and using Adobe Creative Suite software to include Creative Cloud and presentation software; this includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~ EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. This education must have been obtained at an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ COMBINATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed higher level graduate education and specialized experience, as described above, which meets the total experience requirements for this grade level. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Communications and MediaCustomer ServiceDesign IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The duties and responsibilities of this position requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, sitting, or recurrent lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment, and large rolls of oversize printer paper. Manual dexterity between hands and eyes and the ability to perceive and sense color hues and chroma accurately is necessary.
