Duties

The role of this position is to serve as the technical expert on all matters related to commercial vessel safety data.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:* Preparing vessel safety data reports and ensuring uniform application of the commercial vessel regulations.* Providing specific safety data assistance, advising, and program consultation to associated parties in the interpretation and application of vessel safety data, inspection standards and regulations, occupational safety and health standards info, proper classification of violations and citations, and resolution of complex and unprecedented safety and health hazard trends that have a broad impact on the Commercial vessel fleet.* Planning, conducting, and auditing units marine safety data.* Providing expertise and upkeep for numerous commercial vessel databases which cover casualties, inspections, boardings, and violations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the medical requirements of the position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-12 level you must have completed at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience includes: providing authoritative interpretations of highly complex data, requirements, procedures, and regulations relating to the U.S. Vessel Response Plan, Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Programs; planning and leading implementation efforts for new initiatives and promoting technological advances related to maritime safety, etc., developing and enforcing national and international standards and regulations. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
