Position serves as Journeyman Electrician of the Electric Shop for the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center, Bay Pines, Florida and reports to the Electric Shop Supervisor. The electrical system involves high voltage switchgear, underground high voltage power lines, pad mounted oil cooled transformers up to approximately 2000 KVA with voltages of 12,470 volts to 480/277 and 208/120 volts, high intensity lighting systems indoor and outside, uninterruptible power systems up to 125 KVA.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Including data communications and low voltage cable. Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, electrical manufactures maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance and load of electrical lines. Determine location of panels, pull and junction boxes, conduits and all associated fittings. Respond to customer reported issues. Test, troubleshoot and independently determine an appropriate course of action. Determine installations and repairs including such things as the types, sizes, gauges and lay out of conduit, wiring, couplings, fittings, relays, controls and distribution panels and other electrical systems and best methods of installation and repair. Work Schedule: Week day, compressed day shift Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD516-04799-A Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platform, hydraulic lifts and other hard to reach places. To complete work, employee will stand, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The employee must lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 40 pounds. May also have to lift or move heavy objects over 200 pounds.
