The position serves as Journeyman Electrician of the Electric Shop for the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center, Bay Pines, Florida and reports to the Electric Shop Supervisor. The electrical system involves high voltage switchgear, underground high voltage power lines, pad mounted oil cooled transformers up to approximately 2000 KVA with voltages of 12,470 volts to 480/277 and 208/120 volts, high intensity lighting systems indoor and outside, uninterruptible power systems up to 125 KVA.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Including data communications and low voltage cable.
Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, electrical manufactures maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance and load of electrical lines.
Determine location of panels, pull and junction boxes, conduits and all associated fittings.
Respond to customer reported issues.
Test, troubleshoot and independently determine an appropriate course of action.
Determine installations and repairs including such things as the types, sizes, gauges and lay out of conduit, wiring, couplings, fittings, relays, controls and distribution panels and other electrical systems and best methods of installation and repair.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platform, hydraulic lifts and other hard to reach places. To complete work, employee will stand, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The employee must lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 40 pounds. May also have to lift or move heavy objects over 200 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside, including in bad weather. Work may need to be completed in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy and bad smelling. Work may require being at a height of over 50 feet or more and in close quarters such as manholes or attics. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, rotary devices such as electrical motors, sharp edges on metal equipment or parts and pointed objects. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
