The employee serves as Painter within the Facilities Management Service at the Orlando VA Healthcare Center located in Orange County, Florida.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Painting one-of-a-kind pieces of casework such as consoles and cabinets. Work from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders and rough sketches. Plan and lay out work to be done, select the proper tools, determine materials to be used and accomplish the work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices. Ensure site is clean of all debris and equipment upon completion of work. Erect or suspend scaffolding in the performance of duties and be responsible for the proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment. Mix all types of paints such as base coat paint, interior paints and finishing exterior paints. Skilled in the application of paints in around door frames, window frames, walls as well as molding and base cover and in accenting areas. Work Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, Tuesday-Saturday, Monday-Friday: 6:30 am-3:00 pm, 7:00 am-3:30 pm, 7:30 am-4:00 pm, 3:00 pm-11:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Painter/PD675-02614-0 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/23/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Employee must climb ladders, bend, crouch, stoop and endure prolonged periods of standing and walking. Employee must lift parts, supplies weighing up to 40 lbs. Perform internal inspections as required by Department of Veterans Affairs. Must observe all local and National Safety Codes. Will move furniture in rooms to be painted, will request assistance when needed. The work requires the preparation and coating of surfaces from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and/or where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside,sometimes in bad weather, wet, cramped locations. Must always be aware of safety hazards and know what action should be taken to avoid them. Must observe all local and National Safety Codes. Must know and comply with all safety factors of the various trades to prevent fires and injury to patients and personnel. Must wear a respirator and disposable clothing including coveralls and cover for head, hands and feet when working in areas of possible asbestos contamination. Employee generally works outdoors, but works inside occasionally for short periods of time and is exposed to outside weather conditions.
