The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a computer scientist for research, development,, installation, securing, and maintenance of complex software in support of automation tasks, management, configuration, and monitoring in support of AF CyberWorx (CWx) on classified and unclassified DoD network.

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
  • This position may include information assurance (IA) work as an additional duty. The recipient of this additional duty must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment to these duties.
  • Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in the reassignment of this additional duty to another employee within the organization.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • The position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
  • At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions and the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1550 Computer Science Series. BASIC REQUIREMENT: GS-1550: Computer Science Series 1550 (opm.gov) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-12: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience includes professional knowledge of, and skill and applying, advanced theories, concepts, and principles practices of mathematics, and computer science and application of programming languages and Robotics Process Automation (RPA) tools in the development and maintenance of communication-computer systems and subsystems; knowledge of and skill in applying computer science, systems analysis, and application software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new IT methods and principles; knowledge of, and skill in applying and adapting standard approaches to gather, analyze, and evaluate information concerning complex processes, operations, or questions typified by conventional relationships. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts with your application. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Professional knowledge of computer science principles, software/systems design concepts and practices applicable to a wide range of duties associated with information system software design and development activities. 2. Knowledge and skill to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, devise solutions o problems, and identify changes and trends. 3. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness of program operations. Works with minimal supervision, is motivated to achieve, and demonstrates responsible behavior. 4. Ability to set well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays high level of initiative, effort commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner, modify standard practices and techniques to solve a wide variety of interrelated problems to adapt precedents and make departures from previous approaches to similar projects to provide a specialized requirement. 5. Ability to participate in study teams; originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies; and execute projects an/or studies within established time constraints. 6. Skill and ability to document research and report findings as well as tailor research and report appropriate to their intended audience. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiates complex issues; and maintain good working relations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
