Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Mechanical Engineer. Duty Location: Sacramento, California This position is concurrently open to Merit Promotion eligibles under Announcement Number BOR-CGB-23-MP-12138597-OPM

Duties

Serves as a journey level Mechanical Engineer in the preparation of specifications to meet project needs concerning mechanical projects. Acts as liaison between multiple offices on technical design matters, and coordinates design related activities. Designs new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for a variety of real property facilities. Ensures contractor work follows contract requirements. Provides input to proposed or revised Regional policies, standards, and guidelines. Assignments include, but are not limited to, all or portions of the following: (1) structures such as buildings, powerplants, pumping plants, fish hatcheries, and recreation development facilities; and (2) water development, conveyance, and control facilities, such as dams, canals, tunnels, pipelines, distribution systems, and drainage facilities. Project assignments may contain multidisciplinary elements.

Qualifications

-OR- D. Successfully completed a curriculum leading to a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field such as engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology AND have at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. This must include either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. -OR- E. Successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Note: You must submit documentation of having passed the examination. -OR- F. Currently registered as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. This registration must have been obtained by written test OR be in general engineering or a directly related engineering field and was gained by State grandfather or eminence provisions NOTE: You must submit copies of your current registration. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH GRADE: GS-07: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience, comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) Applying basic theories of the mechanical engineering discipline for work on construction, services, or supply contracts; 2) Drafting reports suitable for professional and general public audiences; and 3) Supporting senior engineers in investigating problems arising during construction. (Note your resume must fully support this experience.) -OR- B. Have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of transcripts. -OR- C. Meet the requirements for Superior Academic Achievement by earning a bachelor's degree with at least one of the following (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher based on a 4.0 scale; (2) a 3.5 GPA or higher for required courses completed in a major field of study during junior and senior year of a 4-year college or university; (3) class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or a major subdivision of the college, such as the College of Liberal Arts, based on completed courses; or (4) membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College Honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies. In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position being filled. GS-09: Applicants musthave one full year of specialized experience, comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) Providing input for specifications for construction, services, or supply contracts; 2) Assisting with coordinating design related activities involving multiple groups/offices; 3) Investigating problems arising during construction to assist with recommended solutions; and 4) Contributing to correspondence or technical reports suitable for professional and general public audiences. (Note: Your resume must fully support this experience). -OR- B. Have successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of transcripts. -OR- C. Have an equivalent combination of the specialized experience and graduate level education described above. (To calculate your combined amount, first determine the amount of your specialized experience as a percentage of the requirement listed in A above. Then determine the amount of your graduate education in excess of one full year (18 semester hours) as a percentage of the requirement listed in B above; then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of transcripts. GS-11: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience, comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) Preparing specifications for construction, services, or supply contracts; 2) Coordinating design related activities involving multiple groups/offices; 3) Investigating problems arising during construction to recommend solutions; AND 4) Preparing correspondence or technical reports suitable for professional and general public audiences. (Note: Your resume must fully support this experience). -OR- B. Have successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of transcripts. -OR- C. Have an equivalent combination of the specialized experience and graduate level education described above. (To calculate your combined amount, first determine the amount of your specialized experience as a percentage of the requirement listed in A above. Then determine the amount of your graduate education in excess of one full year (18 semester hours) as a percentage of the requirement listed in B above; then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
