This position is located in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Duties
Some of the duties you will perform as a Physician Assistant include, but are not limited to:
Performs such duties as: patient history and physical examinations;
Recording pertinent patient data; assessment of patients to determine the need for medical attention;
Review of patient records to determine health status; and the preparation of patient summaries.
Performs standard laboratory studies; orders commonly used medications; collects specimens for blood, cerebral spinal fluid, urine, stool analysis/culture; identifies normal and abnormal findings based on history, physical examination, and commonly performed laboratory studies
Formulates and implements a plan of action to address identified health status deviations from the norm.
Maintains contact with patients and their referring physicians to explain the patient's condition and symptoms, interpret the results of laboratory tests, and discuss the future status of patients who have participated in the study.

Qualifications
Basic Requirement(s) - All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels:
You must have graduated from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.
AND
You must have also successfully completed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; AND maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification.
AND
You must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
To qualify for the GS-12 level:
In addition to the above requirements, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting physical assessments and examinations of patients; interviewing patients to obtain medical history, medications and previous or current infections and diseases; coordinating the distribution and handling of medical specimens for testing and evaluation; and preparing reports, charts, and graphs of medical information from patient records.
To qualify for the GS-13:
In addition to the above requirements, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting physical assessments and examinations of patients; recommending treatment and therapies for patients with complex health issues; serving as a specialty consultant to nursing services and health disciplines; interviewing patients to obtain medical history, medications and previous or current infections and diseases; and developing reports, charts and graphs of medical information from patient records.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
