Financial Services Division, Austin, TX. The selectee of this position serves as a Accountant. You will be responsible for providing oversight and review for District financial policies, financial operations, financial reporting, technical support, and assistance managing/overseeing the Austin Processing Center contractor personnel.

Duties

As a Accountant at the GS-0510-13 level, some of your typical work assignments may include: Ensures transactions are submitted in compliance with rules and regulations. Provides oversight of accounting operations. Serves as a Team Leader, providing technical authority through the presentation of sound advice, direction, and guidance of accounting and financial management issues and oversight of all accounting transactions. Assists with the development of policies, guidance, and internal controls. Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-0510-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet one of the following basic requirements: A. I have successfully completed of a full 4-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting (and/or auditing). The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts to verify education. OR B. I have at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. My background includes one of the following: 1) 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality (can include up to 6 hours of business law); or 2) A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) obtained through written examination; or 3) Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts and/or supporting documentation. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the Basic Requirement listed above, all applicants must possess the following specialized experience to be considered minimally qualified for this GS-13 position: One full-time year of specialized work experience equivalent to the grade GS-12 in the Federal Service performing duties which include: 1.) Applying accounting theories, practices, methods, techniques, and procedures; 2.) Analyzing financial data; 3.) Preparing financial reports; 4.) Processing and recording financial transactions; 5.) Providing technical advice regarding complex financial issues; and 6.) Resolving discrepancies in financial data. IN DESCRIBING YOUR EXPERIENCE, PLEASE BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirements for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
