Duties
Typical work assignments include:
The purpose position is to serve as a Data Scientist providing professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of mathematics, statistical analysis, and modeling/simulation.
Performs a broad range of data analyses assignments entailing unique problems, creativity, innovative use of techniques, advance approaches and or new technology.
Leads the development and documentation of operational concepts and strategies for assigned programs/projects.
Develops and automates large scale, high-performance data processing systems and tools to improve data quality and volume, accelerate iteration cycles, and improve the ability to deliver superior enabled analytics capabilities.
Performs a variety of high-level analytical, and representational duties.
Leads development and execution of ISD's quantitative analytic capabilities.
Executes projects with ISD's quantitative analytic capabilities including modeling, simulation, and data analysis tools.
Applies knowledge of particular classes of problems and the ability to develop associated problem- solving methods.
Qualifications
To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required education and experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying. Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirement for the GS-1501 Series AND Qualification requirements as listed below in order to be considered.
Basic Requirements:
1. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level, if you have:
EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level (or equivalent) performing the following duties:
Specialized Experience:
1. Developing mathematical, and/or models for evaluation, identification, collection, and analysis of all data used to support projects or programs;
2. Selecting the appropriate scientific data collection techniques for program analysis from various sources; and
3. Conducting background investigations, collecting and reducing scientific data, and displaying data for analysis to draw conclusions.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Foreign Education: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements. You must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private U.S. organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
