The Supply Technician serves in the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) area of the Logistics Service in a Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area in West Palm Beach, FL.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** These duties include, but may not be limited: General: Provides wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and materials, including but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. Supply Distribution: Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. Involves pulling stock inventory and material from main inventory for delivery; replenishing and stock inventory; interacting with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated to supervisors or inventory Management Specialists as needed. Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Supports managers in checking inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts. Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the Inventory management Specialists. Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems such as GIP. Inventory Control - Receiving: Receives supplies and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area. Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons; properly stores supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas. Stores items in accordance with established guidelines. utilizing a computerized inventory system, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system. Maintains through periodic inventory and discussion with ward and clinical personnel, maintains stock levels, returns reusable supplies to the distribution area, and informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical supply resources. and shelf life. Work Schedule: Full-Time, 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday - Friday, Rotating Schedule. Tours may be subject to change based on the needs of the Medical Center. DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT: This position requires a current, valid, state driver's license. Having a license is mandatory. If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your current, valid, and unrestricted state driver's license. -Your driver license will be verified at interview. (We cannot forward documents that contain pictures, therefore, Please DO NOT submit your driver's license with your application materials.) - You must complete any driver manual training that may be required by the location support facility required to drive a government vehicle. and GS-5 Qualifications Specialized Experience: One (1) year of Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of Supply Technician, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level. Examples of Qualifying specialized experience may include: having practical knowledge of standard supply management procedures to perform work involving inventory and excess materials management; ability to interpret policies, procedures, manuals, and regulations, pertaining to supply/inventory management and federal acquisition systems; understanding of an automated inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes; (such as, providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials); capable of defining and recognizing problems to collect applicable data and make recommendations for solution; and having expertise in computers and Microsoft office software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, sufficient to enter information and manage supply inventory. OR Substitution of Education for Experience: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED). OR Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. (i.e., six (6) months of specialized experience and two (2) years of education above the high school level). (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED). All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, ending, and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as fifty (50lbs) pounds. Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing more than one hundred (100lbs) pounds; with proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over forty (40lbs) pounds.
