About the Position: This position is located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Pay is set using the 983S Special Salary Table.
Duties
Serves as Lead Police Sergeant assigned to shift operations, directs, coordinates and oversees desk operations.
Provides general supervision to civilian employees and technical guidance/direction to military and civilian police personnel.
Maintains records, prepares journals, blotters and reports and reviews police reports for clarity, legibility and accuracy.
Exercises arrest authority and follows established procedures to assist or perform search of persons to seize weapons, contraband, drugs or evidence of a crime.
Responds to emergency calls, investigates situations and interviews witnesses.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment.
- Incumbent must possess a valid State-issued driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government issued driver's license.
- This position requires a Secret Security Clearance.
- This position requires Firearms qualification testing.
- This position requires incumbent to submit to random urinalysis exams and sign a DA Form 5019 drug testing position form.
- Incumbent must successfully complete pre-placement and annual physical examinations.
- Incumbent is required to wear a uniform that must be clean and possess a sharp and crisp appearance.
- This position is designated as a Mission Essential position.
- The position requires working rotating shifts including weekends and holidays and may require working overtime as well as on-call duty.
- The position requires certification in CPR techniques and knowledge of first aid.
- This position requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in case of chemical/hazardous emergency.
- Incumbent must have successfully graduated from the Department of Army Police Academy; or have received equivalent academic credit OR have received a waiver from the Provost Marshal. You must upload your certificate.
- Incumbent must meet the minimum standards IAW AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing technical guidance and direction to police personnel, responding to and investigating emergency calls; exercising search and arrest authority, detaining witnesses, apprehending suspects, interviewing witnesses; conducting investigations on criminal cases; collecting and preserving evidence; developing case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial; appearing in court to testify at court proceedings; performing required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency; conducting civilian training regarding various law enforcement topics; conducting traffic law enforcement patrol, issuing traffic citations, setting up traffic control points, road blocks, and directing traffic; performing access control duties; answering visitor questions and providing assistance; assuring criminal or Anti-terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) measures are met to protect installation command and assure mission accomplishment; operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal; using law enforcement computer programs reports concerning all incidents and actions taken.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07).
