The Marion, IL VA Medical Center is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic to join the Engineering Service.
Duties
This position functions as a Maintenance Mechanic for the Marion VA Medical Center, Marion, IL within the Maintenance and Operations section (M&O) of the Engineering Service. In addition to the hospital, support services are provided to all, Community Based Outpatient Centers (CBOCs).
Duties:
Performs non-complex repairs and maintenance to air conditioning and refrigeration systems and components.
Assists with troubleshooting services and repairs mechanical and electrical systems and equipment on such units as large commercial industrial air conditioning systems which provides a variety of environmental changes and industrial refrigeration units and freezers, and structures.
Performs preventive maintenance and repairs by servicing equipment, changing filters and cleaning coils on window unit A/C, air compressors, fan coil units, condenser/compressor, air handlers, refrigeration equipment (industrial), package units, and appliances
Performs maintenance and repair work that involves measuring, cutting, and constructing using standard building materials.
Projects involve constructing, altering, repairing, and modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses, and beams.
Performs basic troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems.
Identifies electrical problems, equipment requirements, and ancillary support operations required to complete identified repairs.
Repairs light fixtures to include bulb, replacement, and resets circuit breakers.
Performs a variety of painting maintenance and repair work including work that involves, mudding, sanding, and painting
Supports the install of metal studs & steel door jambs, corner beads, base beads, bullnose heads, and installs access panels in walls and ceilings.
lays out wall and floor tile and installation.
Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and repair work including work that involves removing, cleaning, replacing, and sealing defective parts of utility
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am- 3:30pm

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and hydraulic platforms. Incumbent works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty, and hard-to-reach locations. The work can involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffoldings, parts, and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent is required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
