Duties

The incumbent plans and schedules the work of subordinate employees to operate and maintain the utility and structures on campus. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Planning: Inspects work and completed work areas, supervises subordinates concerning general upkeep of the shops, repairs, installation, adjustment and calibration of controls and schedules. Oversees equipment repairs within specified time schedules, estimates and initiates requisitions of materials for repairs, replacements and new installations of equipment. Establishes and enforces policies, procedures and regulation; explains and assures understanding of VA rules and regulations governing personnel actions, conduct, and care of equipment. Completes inspections to assure subordinates use all safety precautions, equipment, and adhere to safety rules. Work Direction: Plans and establishes work schedules and assignments; establishes priorities for work. observes the shops in operation to assure they are operating properly and efficiently. Performs work independently and is checked for results, quality and quantity of work performed; reports efficiency of shop operation. Ensures effective and efficient work of shops under supervision and provide day-to-day leadership. Administration: Responsible for first-line personnel duties within area of supervision such as; maintain vacation and leave schedules, approving official on all leave requests in accordance with applicable regulations. Sets performance standards, initiates performance ratings, conducts counseling sessions, and initiates appropriate disciplinary actio Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor/PD082410 Physical Requirements: Incumbent must have the ability to climb over, under, in and around various obstructions found in ta facility such as pipes, hangers, equipment, ductwork, conduits and cables. Incumbent must be able to list up to fifty (50) pounds as a well as push and pull loads, climb ladders with up to thirty (30) pound and endure prolonged periods of walking, crouching, siting and standing.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Working Conditions: Work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy and may contain asbestos or in areas where noxious fumes are present. The incumbent works off of ladders and scaffolds, outside work will entail exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Incumbent must observe all local and National Safety Codes and may be required to wear respirator and disposable clothing including coveralls and covers for head, hands, and feet. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing. The incumbent must always be aware of safety hazards and know what action should be take to avoid them.
