The primary purpose of the position is to perform administrative and program analysis support work and ensure program compliance for Veterans in the Caregiver Support Program (CSP). In addition, the incumbent provides general administrative assistance for the service. CSP is a clinical program that focuses on the needs of both the eligible Veteran/Servicemember and the eligible Primary and Secondary Family Caregivers. Position aligns under Social Work service.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
The incumbent serves as the Program Support Assistant (PSA) in support of the CSP Coordinator and other assigned multidisciplinary program staff. The PSA aids the Program Coordinator in getting things accomplished through an extensive knowledge and understanding of the organization, regulations, methods, and the other tools or recourses of management. In the absence of the CSP Coordinator, the PSA will serve as the point of contact for the CSP and provide vital, sensitive. administrative program "information to the Caregiver and/or Veteran, VA approved providers and VA staff.
The PSA assists in the establishment and enrollment of Veterans and Caregiver into the CSP and acts as the liaison and provides coordination and collaboration of services with VA eligibility, travel, budget, non-VA care services and other departments throughout VA Health Care System. The PSA accepts CSP telephone calls from patients, family members, caregivers, CSP staff in the field. other VA staff, Congressional Officers, and/or community agency staff, regarding program inquiries. patient care concerns, etc. The PSA obtains as much information as possible, provides information and resolves problems independently when possible, prioritizes and makes decisions regarding caller referral based on specific caller needs;. The incumbent ensures timely clinical response to patients/callers that potentially have an emergent or urgent care need through prompt identification of the problem and appropriate clinical referral while exercising mature judgement and diplomacy

Physical Requirements: The work is generally performed in an outpatient/office of the Medical Center. The environment involves those everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and meeting rooms. Although the employee works in a health care facility where exposure to contagious diseases and carcinogenic materials exist, the tasks required for this position do not put the employee at a serious risk for this type of exposure. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. From time to time, travel by government vehicle as indicated by the CGSP Coordinator may be required.
Qualifications

Proficiency Requirements: (Office Automation) In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
Typing requirement for this position (Office Automation) of 40 *words per minute typing speed.
*Words per minute are based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
knowledge of personal computers and local systems software functions to produce and update a wide range of documents that often require complex formats, such as graphics of tables with text, to edit and reformat electronic drafts and to updates or revised existing databases or spreadsheets, requiring the use of advanced soft ware functions to enhance productivity or meet the needs of complex formats and function keys for preforming a substantial range of functions within each software. (This experience must be well documented in your resume or application package.)].
