THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a Powered Support Systems Mechanic Position Description Number D0324000 and is part of the 158th Maintenance Squadron Command of the Vermont Air National Guard. *This position is also advertised to Active Guard Reserve Airmen under announcement number MVA-AF-23-53. *

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to accomplish maintenance on electronically controlled powered support equipment containing highly complex digital devices and integrated circuits. (1) Responsible for the accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures, to troubleshoot, calibrate, align and repair a variety of highly complex pieces of powered support equipment. This includes identifying, repairing or replacing numerous electronic (both digital and analog) components. (2) Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines. (3) Must independently determine work sequences, specifications, and special procedures to be used to fault-isolate and repair unusual problems in various pieces of powered support equipment. Conducts classes to train maintenance personnel in operations, test procedures, and troubleshooting requirements of highly complex powered support equipment. (4) Performs intermediate-level maintenance on powered support equipment and non-powered AGE. (5) Troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, modifies and operates aerospace ground equipment such as AC and DC power generators, various types of internal combustion engines, air compressors, blowers, hydraulic test stands, cabin leakage testers, portable diesel engine driven generators, emergency lighting units, de-icers, heaters, load banks, hydrostatic testers, cryogenic carts, decontamination units, thermal bath, vacuum pumps, flow meters, lavatory service trailers, air conditioners and various pieces of non-powered AGE. (6) Performs maintenance data collection and prepares other required forms. Maintains Technical Orders, Technical Order Files, commercial technical publications and other directives pertinent to the section. (7) Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluation such as ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. (8) Participates and assists in conducting the necessary safety program for the Aerospace Ground Equipment activity. OPEN AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: AREA 1, 2,3, 4 Area I: All current On-board Permanent and Indefinite Dual Status 32 and Title 5 (Competitive and Excepted) Technicians (Tenure: 1-Career, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite) - Only those Vermont National Guard members who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed. Area II: All Members of the Vermont Air National Guard. Area III: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the VTNG, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard. Area IV: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Vermont National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians. Military Grades: rank individually addressed up to SSgt/E-5 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS WG-06/8/10:Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-06: Must have 9 months of experience or training using common hand tools and making repetitive repairs. Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. Knowledge of safety regulations and practices. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-08: Must have 12 months of experience or training that demonstrates a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships. Experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories. Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-10: Must have 18 months of experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
