This position serves as a Supervisory Paramedic at the Cheyenne River Service Unit, in Eagle Butte,SD. The primary purpose of the position is to supervise a shift or section of the ambulance program and the secondary purpose is to perform advanced technical health care extender functions within the emergency medical arena in response to various accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness.
**There may be Government housing available for this position, depending on availability.**
Duties
Assists the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director and the Emergency Department Medical Director with continuously auditing the EMS program to ensure compliance with regulations.
Independently conducts a complete assessment using advance knowledge of topographic anatomy; knowledge of major body systems; knowledge of emergency medical techniques; and knowledge to understand legal considerations of emergency care.
Assists with moving, lifting, and carrying patients to emergency vehicles and appropriate treatment facility. Performs safety and maintenance inspection on emergency and patient transport vehicles and equipment. Maintains a thorough knowledge of current Paramedic standard of care and scope of practice.
The incumbent plans work to be accomplished by subordinates and prepares schedules for completion of work; evaluates work performance of subordinates; advise or counsel employees on work and administrative matters; interview candidates for positions; hear and resolve complaints from employees; effects minor disciplinary measures; identify training needs of employees; approves leave, etc.

Qualifications

**Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the basic requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants must possess and provide proof of a current unrestricted Paramedic Certification or Licensure from any US State or Territory.
Basic Requirements:
GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Oversees multiple employees and set priorities, ensure policy and procedures are being followed; provide life-saving medical treatment in emergency situations to include initial patient examination, prompt and efficient patient care, patient handling, and patient transport in accordance with protocols; assist in evaluating the Emergency Medical Services department performance and managing department budget.
Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.
