About the Position: The incumbent serves as the geotechnical authority for civil works and military projects for the Kansas City District. The projects include all aspects of channel, levee, foundation, pavement, and engineering materials.
Duties
Performs quality assurance (QA) evaluations for in-house products and Architect-Engineer (A-E) services to ensure technical adequacy, adherence to technical guidance, overall design quality, and cost effectiveness.
Work includes developing schedules, milestones, and budgets; coordination within the District, with project sponsors, the public, other agencies and stakeholders; and coordination with higher headquarters.
Provides technical advice and consultation to other District elements on geotechnical problems and promotes new and innovative geotechnical engineering methods, analyses, technologies, and construction techniques.
Visit construction sites, views excavated areas, studies site foundation conditions, assures that foundation design is adequate, takes appropriate action to effect changes, including additional or different foundation treatment methods.
Provides technical advice and consultation on geotechnical problems and promotes new and innovative geotechnical engineering methods, analyses, technologies, and construction techniques.
Prepares, scopes, or directs the preparation of geotechnical investigation reports, design documents, and detailed geotechnical construction drawings and technical specifications.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
