Job opening: SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety Office, Recruit Training Command of RECRUIT TRAINING COMMAND.

Duties

You will reduce safety risk by executing High Risk Training Safety (HRTS) and Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) programs that adhere to established safety laws, regulations, and standards. You will resolve technical issues using Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations, principles, or practices. You will collect information through record reviews, interviews, and on-site inspection to address environmental issues or concerns. You will develop or revise safety instructions, rules, and regulations to support operations and the command's mission. You will verify data in the Enterprise Safety Applications Management System (ESAMS) to maintain accurate records. You will present findings to mishap investigations recommending specific techniques or the application of safety standards to correct deficiencies.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must maintain eligibility for a secret clearance to be an ESAMS administrator. In addition, incumbent requires annual HIPPA training in addition to standard requirements for all staff.

Qualifications

For The GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Investigating hazardous conditions, practices, and equipment in order to identify the nature of the hazard. 2) Conducting inspections to ensure compliance with standard current safety regulations, policies, procedures, and instructions for accuracy. 3) Utilizing safety and occupational health principles, methods and standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. 4) Utilizing software programs to include Enterprise Safety Applications Management Systems (ESAMS), Risk Management Information Systems (RMI) and Web Enabled Safety System (WESS) according to policies and procedures. For The GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing databases used to document safety training requirements and inspections. 2) Implementing, supporting, an promoting Safety, Occupational, Health, and Environmental management programs to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. 3) Searching, collecting, and consolidating data and finalizing information for routine or non-routine reports. 4) Assisting with conducting weekly emergency action plans walkthroughs. For The GS-09:
Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR

Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

Have successfully completed one full year of graduate level education in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
