This position is located at the Regional Office of the Southwestern Region National Forests, Region 3.
This position serves as an Executive Assistant to a Senior Executive. Duties include providing the Senior Executive with strategic time management resources and making independent studies of significant issues that affect multiple organizational levels of the Forest Service.

Duties
Coordinate administrative matters related to the Executive's Office including those related to personnel matters, Human Resource Programs, and safety and health.
Determine the most effective means to disseminate information from the Senior Executive's office to varied internal and external customer regardless of the type and/or scope of the matter.
Provide analysis related to any phase of Agency policies, relationships or activities requiring the special attention of the Executive.
Arrange complex and detailed travel plans, itineraries, and agendas for Executive.
Assist supervisor's subordinates in aspects of expediting the work of the office, including explaining report requirements, arranging for submission of required data, and instructing clerical/support personnel in administrative procedures.
Participate in staff and/or management level meetings and discussions pertaining to the activities encompassed in the administrative and management functions of the Executive's office.
Supervises 20% or less of the time.
Requirements

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as 4 or more of the following:
Managing administrative services such as budget, procurement and contract administration, travel, property and records management, FOIA request, or litigation hold requests related to the unit;
and/or developing and maintaining working relationships with key staff across the agency, maintaining a current awareness of their views on issues that impact the agency;
and/or conducting analytical studies related to program operations which includes information gathering, interpreting administrative reports/policy/records, and coordinating with management representatives;
and/or planning the work to be accomplished by the work group, assigning work to employees, and communicating performance requirements to employees;
and/or recommending changes to operating practices based on knowledge of administrative processes, providing recommendations on the most economical methods of achieving administrative objectives.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
