This position is located in Flight Program Operations (AJF) Service Unit. This Directorate facilitates collaborative operational and strategic decision making with increased emphasis on operational safety and efficiency and supports the Air Traffic Organization's Joint Air Traffic Operations Center (JATOC) along with providing flight releases, flight monitoring, and arrival services for all of the FAA) owned and leased aircraft.

Duties

Level 9: The Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (ATSS) independently carries out various assignments that require knowledge of the technology and operation of the National Airspace Systems (NAS) to support the JATOC.

Requirements

  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational RequirementsUndergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following: computer science, mathematics, electronics, physical sciences, information management, engineering, telecommunications, or other fields related to the position.To qualify for this position at the FG-9 level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG-7 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes: Experience applying FAA regulations, advisory circulars, minimum equipment list (MEL)/Configuration Deviation List (CDL) items, Airplane Flight Manual limitations, operations specifications (Ops Specs) and Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs); experience with flight dispatching, such as: aircraft performance, weather requirements for departure/destination and alternate airports, hazardous weather awareness, recognition and avoidance, aeronautical decision making, risk management, runway suitability, instrument flight rules, flight planning, crew duty limitations and rest requirements, and temporary flight restrictions (TFRs); experience interpreting instrument approach procedure charts, aeronautical charts, Airman's Information Manual (AIM), airport directory and location identifiers.OrMaster's or equivalent graduate degree Or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree Or LL.B. or J.D., if related.OrCombination education and experience may be qualifying for this position. This means possession of this criterion is part of the minimum qualifications and is essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants who do not possess this criterion are ineligible for further consideration.Selective Placement Factor (SPF): Qualified candidates must possess an Aircraft Dispatcher certificate or an Airplane Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes: Experience exercising responsibility with the Pilot in Command in the operational control of civil aircraft conducting 14 CFR part 121 domestic and/or flag operations; experience performing flight dispatching/flight monitoring work in accordance with 14 CFR part 135 operations.OrPh.D. or equivalent doctoral degree Or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree Or LL.M., if related.Or Combination education and experience may be qualifying for this position.
