The primary purpose of this position is: Serve as an engineering technician for the Technical Applications Products program team. Providing sustainment and developmental engineering technical and logistics support for production, repair, refurbishment, and modification of material samplers of the United States Atomic Energy Detection System (USAEDS). ** Salary ranges includes local market supplements **

Duties

1. The incumbent is a member of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) responsible for the sustainment engineering for all fielded and new material collection systems. 2. Uses technical expertise and knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering concepts, principles, and procedures to the solution of problems concerning the design and flow analysis of new and novel collection systems. 3. Provides logistics assistance to existing and newly developed systems being acquired to fulfill current and future sampling requirements and needs. 4. Prepares detailed technical reports of findings and recommendations.

Qualifications

This is a GG-12 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-12 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the 12 grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Certification: Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: Thorough knowledge of advanced concepts, theories, principles, practices, methods and techniques of engineering disciplines and practical knowledge of other scientific disciplines such as mathematics and the physical sciences to include cryogenics and vacuum technologies are required. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. Thorough knowledge of advanced concepts, theories, principles, practices, methods, and techniques of engineering disciplines and practical knowledge of other scientific disciplines such as mathematics and the physical sciences to include cryogenics and vacuum technologies are required. 2. An extensive knowledge of related engineering and scientific fields including, but not limited to, the following: a thorough and continually current knowledge of design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance of state of-the-art scientific, electronic, and mechanical instrumentation and systems used to detect, identify, and measure trace levels gaseous and particulate samples. Knowledge of theory and operation of vacuum systems. To include design, specification, and fabrication techniques involving vacuum, high vacuum and ultrahigh vacuum components and materials. 3. Knowledge of theory and operation of cryogenic systems. A thorough knowledge of US Government and contractor relationships. Radiological analysis techniques and safety measures. 4. Knowledge of Department of Defense Acquisition Logistics and their relationships to the planning and establishment of long-range sustainment for newly developed systems. 5. Knowledge of engineering concepts used to calculate, analyze and review complex engineering specifications and technical data. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS PERTAINING TO THIS POSITION: Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed. Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
