About the Position: Serves as a Curator for the Army museums in Hawaii with primary focus on U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii (MOH) at Fort DeRussy and secondary focus on Tropic Lightning Museum (TLM) at Schofield Barracks. Primary duty location is MOH at Fort DeRussy and secondary duty location is TLM at Schofield Barracks.
Duties
Responsible for administering, maintaining, and managing the historic properties collection.
Perform professional work related to research, collection, exhibits and education.
Ensure proper storage, security, and protection of the collection items.
Responsible for writing and updating in-house standing operating procedures for all aspects of museum operations as mandated by army regulations, policies, and special museum regulations.
Process all orders for reproduction of historic photographs by coordination with a commercial photo lab or by scanning photos.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.

Basic Requirement for Museum Curator:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field such as Museum Studies or History.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OR
Experience: Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes ensuring compliance with all federal and local regulations regarding physical security, fire and safety; recommending techniques and methods to be used for effective presentation and preservation of displayed artifacts; preparing and or maintaining artifacts while on exhibit; researching historical background and authenticity of artifacts and other collections through publications, military histories, and other appropriate sources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Museum Studies or History.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
