Employee will serve as a Medical Care Transport Technician - Paramedic at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. The Paramedic will respond to on-site accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, sometimes encountering situations which may be life threatening.
Duties
***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Respond to on-site accidents and other emergencies.
Determine vital signs and the need for care.
Perform lifesaving duties.
Access patients and care needed.
Preform CPR, resuscitation by AED and ACLS drug treatments.
Load/unload patients by wheelchair or stretcher.
Prepare appropriate patient and vehicle use documentation for transports.
Relay patient information to and from dispatchers and health care providers.
Uses telephone and radio communication equipment and systems.
Select the most efficient route to and from sites, taking into consideration traffic patterns and locations of health care facility.
Conduct a thorough safety inspection and operator maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Paramedics work rotating shifts, including holidays and are subject to occasional recall to maintain adequate coverage of the Emergency Department and ambulance service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Qualifications
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
AND
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - THREE Selective Placement Factors (SPF) have been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.
The SPF for this position is: Paramedics must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification. (CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED to receive credit for further consideration). AND
The SPF for this position is: Paramedics must possess and maintain current and valid certification as aNational Registered Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic). (CERTIFICATION REQUIRED to receive credit for further consideration). AND
The SPF for this position is: Possess a valid state driver's license. (Please DO NOT provide driver's license. We may not accept pictures. This requirement will be verified during interview).
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience which has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the GS-8 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: responding to on-site accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses; accessing the patient at the time of entry to coordinate the best method for transportation; determining vital signs and the need for care; performing lifesaving duties; loading/unloading patients by wheelchair or stretcher; relaying patient information to and from dispatchers and health care providers; and conducting safety inspections and operator maintenance.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required) - Successfully completed two years of Graduate education or a Master's degree is creditable only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
OR
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required) Equivalent combinations of successfully completed Graduate education (in excess of one year) combined with specialized experience described above are also qualifying.
