This position is assigned to the Electrical shop in the Engineering Service Line of the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SL VHCS). The Electrical shop provides the electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment in support of SL VHCS.
Duties
Major duties include:
Installation, modification, repair, direct support, troubleshooting, general support maintenance and preventive maintenance, testing of complex electrical systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures, motor controls, generators, ATS, variable speed drives, and fire alarm systems.
Installs, maintains and repairs a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, wiring systems, distribution panels and appliances.
Testing of circuits and equipment
Performs electrical repairs
Maintains, diagnoses, and troubleshoots systems or equipment and repairs
Perform weekly check of all emergency generators and fire pump engine.
Reads, interprets and works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and electrical maintenance and repair manuals.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility

Physical Requirements: Repairs and installations are made from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires frequently lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is performed both inside and outside. The incumbent is sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as manholes and attics. Incumbent is occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors; and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
