Serves as the Family & Legal Affairs Representative for the Miami VA Medical Center. Coordinates funeral arrangements and burial benefits application for all inpatient deaths, accepts and supports the guiding principles of the Medical Center.
Duties
Reviews each admission to the Medical Center and/or Nursing Home care unit to check for possible guardianship, curatorship, and conservatorship.
Insures the health information system is updated when new information is received.
Coordinates burials for indigents Veterans
Meet with Family to explain burial benefits
Responsible for telephone consents for medical procedures and Autopsy
Work Schedule: M-F 8:00am - 4:40pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/13/2023.
This position requires a typing requirement of 40 words per minute.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of the priorities, commitments and goals for the Medical Administration Service and the Medical Centers operating principles to meet the facility needs. An understanding and extensive knowledge of the interrelationship of subsidiary records and general ledger accounts and personal funds of patient's find 36x6020 when working patients accounts. Knowledge of principle on maintaining individual accounts, which requires knowledge of applying relatively complex combination of administrative procedure laws and regulations. Must have thorough knowledge of computer security. Must be able to remove and interpret computer information and prepare reports as necessary. Knowledge and skills in the use of good interpersonal communication. Knowledge of content and format of the Health Information Management System.

Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary however there will be some periods of walking. There may be occasional carrying of objects such as books, suitcases, clothing, documents, fifes, boxes of computer paper, and small office equipment. Requires long period of interaction on CRT/PC. Must be able to work under some stress. This includes working with the mourning families of patients who expire at this facility and to maintain relationships in a position which frequently places dual demands on the incumbent.
