This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19. The incumbent of this position serves as an Information Technology Specialist for the Information Technology (IT) department at the Fort Thompson Health Center; Fort Thompson, SD. The incumbent is responsible for administrative and technical support of the Fort Thompson Health Center, along with duties associated with the management of Information Technology Systems, Applications and Telecommunications.

Duties

Coordinates with Area RPMS Specialists, and Departmental Consultants to facilitate the maintenance and installation of patches, updates, and packages in accordance with scheduled releases and Alpha/Beta testing. Provides guidance and recommendations on equipment, processes, and operating environments as they pertain to ADP functionality and security measures. This includes the management of the health center's servers, computers, printers, and peripherals. Completes preventative maintenance of ADP equipment. Analyzes ADP errors and equipment failures. Maintains a local working inventory of ADP equipment. Establishes a lifecycle replacement plan based on the working inventory to determine the equipment level (quantity & quality) that is needed to support the health center and estimates cost for maintenance, replacements, upgrades, and program expansions.

Examples include: In-depth working knowledge and working experience with programs, i.e., MUMPS and UNIX; Network Administration, NT server administration, TCP/IP configuration and implementation, RS232, Telecommunications, and network connectivity per IEEE standards; Knowledge of structures and work processes involved in subsystems (e.g., Pharmacy, Patient Registration, Case Management, Contract Health, Third Party Billing, ADT, OMAN, Fileman, SOL) in order to recognized probable conflicts. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
