About the Position: Patient Care Coordination (PCC) Center, Director of Nursing Services, Nurse of the Day (NOD). This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Maintain delegated oversight and management of the medical treatment facility (MTF) assigned nursing workforce, in the absence of the Deputy Commander for Nursing (DCN) and/or Deputy. Coordinate and evaluate departmental nursing operations during evenings, nights, holidays, and weekend shifts. Compute the total census, bed capacity, availability and the anticipated discharges throughout the inpatient areas and Emergency Department. Document all calls and requests for admission or transfers on the Pager Call Log. Make rounds on each inpatient area and the ER, PACU, APU and OR. Verify staffing for the incoming shift. Respond to all Inpatient Rapid Response Calls/Codes. Compile all data to include: patient information, discrepancies, safety issues, etc. from the previous shift and current data (24 hrs).

• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Specialist/Leadership): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts at the time of application) Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Note: You must submit a copy of your license at the time of application) Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 7, 2017 or before. You will be required to provide approximate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience: At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes performing analysis of nursing operations, based on a strong understanding of hospital systems, process and flow; preparing reports utilizing computer programs (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Powerpoint); assisting patients and/or family members with referrals and/or referral process; maintaining knowledge of hospital and community resources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
