The Maintenance Supervisor supervises at least 36 non-supervisory employees through 3 subordinate shop supervisors. These personnel are engaged in such activities as electrical, electronics, plumbing, pipefitting, carpentry, painting, paper hanging, kitchen equipment, sterilizer equipment, general mechanics, welding and furniture movement. The incumbent is responsible for the quantity and quality of the work production of the entire Maintenance and Repair Section.
Duties
The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and nine community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a 53-county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).The Maintenance Supervisor schedules and approves leave requests, makes work assignments, refers for promotions and takes disciplinary action as necessary. The incumbent is responsible for the administration of management programs for employees and promotes good relationships between management and labor. As the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent's duties will include, but are not limited to:
Supervise work in involving many types of skills and crafts of varying complexity such as painting, paper hanging, carpentry, PM inspections, building equipment such as pneumatic tube systems, medical air systems, medical vacuum systems, elevators, kitchen equipment, sterilizer equipment, pipe system (hot and cold water, steam, oxygen, air vacuum, etc.), electrical work, electronics equipment repairs, etc.
Read and understand blueprints and shop drawings with related specifications and relay instructions to subordinate foremen as required.
Prepare position descriptions and develop performance standards.
Plan and schedule work assignments to the different shops on a daily and long-range basis.
Provide coordination for all in-house type projects assigned.
Ensure the efficient operation of the unit.
Inspect work to assure quality standards are met.
Assure subordinate supervisors order and maintain materials, tools, and minimum stock reserves necessary to carry out the entire maintenance and repair programs and accomplishment of alterations and construction projects without delay.
Conduct periodic manpower surveys of unit to assure work is being performed in the most efficient manner possible.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM - Tour of duty may vary depending on needs of Service

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work may involve climbing, reaching, stretching, crawling, and being in cramped spaces on occasions when trying to resolve difficult problems of different crafts.
