As a Supervisory General Attorney (CR), you will be part of Litigation Management Services (LMS), Office of General Counsel, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Incumbent serves as an Assistant General Counsel, LMS responsible for providing expertise on Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Equal Pay Act (EPA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA).

Duties

Supervises General Attorneys and support staff who support the oversight work of the 15 district legal units. Advises the Associate General Counsel on issues arising in EEOC litigation conducted by the field legal divisions in federal court. Oversees the preparation of legal analyses on complex legal issues that affect the conduct of enforcement litigation. Oversees and supports the effectiveness of the prosecution of litigation, and the degree of interaction between legal and enforcement units. Represents the Associate General Counsel in Commission meetings considering litigation recommendations and other OGC interests. Supervises the development of formal training programs for field legal unit staff regarding all aspects of developing and litigating EEOC cases. Reviews all litigation recommendations submitted by Regional Attorneys to the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel including in systemic and class cases, under Title VII, the EPA, ADEA, ADA, GINA, PWFA, and makes appropriate recommendations. Provides advice and support to 15 district legal units on substantive legal issues, staffing and personnel matters.

Requirements

  • Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
  • Must have an Active BAR Membership in Good Standing. If selected, must maintain active bar membership in good standing while employed as an attorney with EEOC
  • This position is in the Excepted Service

Qualifications

For the GS-15:You must have earned a professional law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member of the BAR, and have four (4) years of professional legal experience with at least one year being equivalent to the GS-14 level. Professional legal education above the first professional law degree may be substituted for experience required as follows:(a) The second professional law degree (LL.M) may be substituted for one year of experience (b) The third law degree (J.S.D) may be substituted for one year of experience beyond the LL.M. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements (e.g., time-in-grade and qualification requirements) within 30 days of the closing date specified in the vacancy announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
