The incumbent serves as a Maintenance Technician in the Environmental Management Service at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS), Little Rock and North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Repairs and replaces furniture, draperies, services equipment and accessories to permit refurnishing or refurbishing and parts of, or area of, the hospital or outside buildings. Removes draperies specified for cleaning and reinstalls them properly following cleaning. Installs interior pictures for the aesthetic appeal of patients and their families. Operates and use a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications. Uses sheet metal tools, welding and brazing equipment and any other special tools required for removing old worn parts, or replacing, realigning or fitting new parts to various types of equipment. Uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and reproduce wooden historic building elements on frame, timber, log, or single-wall structures that require close tolerance fits and structural soundness. Plans, measure, and lay out carpentry materials using typical shop mathematics for complex and exact projects. Measures, cuts and constructs using standard building materials. Determines the methods, techniques, and materials for paint removal, and removes existing finishes using heat guns and scrapers. Interprets blueprints, sketches, manufacturers' specifications, and technical manuals, and be knowledgeable in shop math and standard formulas. Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches, to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation, of systems and equipment. Knowledge of architectural drawings and blueprints. Uses tools associated with the trade such as trowels, floats, joint runner, gauge lines, spirit lines, plumb bobs, air hammers, hand hammers, chisels, etc. Uses of all common electrical hand and power tools and testing equipment as required. Installs, repair, overhaul and maintain most types of equipment. Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical, and other equipment. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and failures and determines the extent of repairs and parts needed. Basic knowledge of interior design and knowledge of specialized materials and practicability of maintenance. All other duties assigned by management. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the agency. Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Worker/PD09793A Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to work from extension ladders, scaffolds and around equipment where coordination between hand and eye is imperative. He/she must be skilled in using small hand tools, electric drills, saws, hammers and various other equipment and hardware. He is required to do intermittent carrying and lifting large articles such as file cabinets, desks, etc., climb on ladders, scaffolds, maintaining body balance while working there and reaching and working on overhead items, occasionally lifts items weighing up to 50 pounds (i.e., furniture, boxes, etc.).
