About the Position: This position is within the DIR of Clinical Support Department of Anatomical Pathology Service. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Serves as a Medical Records Technician in the Pathology Records Section, Department of Pathology/Area Laboratory Services (DPALS), Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Receives a wide variety of telephone or written requests for medical information from professional and research staff and answers inquiries on status of reports or refers to staff pathologists. Collects specimens from various clinics at BAMC, ensuring that patient information on request from corresponds to information on container before delivering to the Histology Laboratory. Establishes and maintains medical reports and record files.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has a mandatory Tuberculosis vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing clerical duties such as answering telephone calls and written correspondence; retrieving medical information from automated systems to assist medical personnel; maintaining patient records; knowledge of medical terminology covering anatomy and physiology areas; furnishing available material for patient education of procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
