About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Surgery, Physical Therapy Service at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market, Hawaii Region. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Perform a wide range of complex Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) duties requiring an advanced practical knowledge of physical therapy, evidence-based medicine and data collection to perform specific aspects of evaluations and interventions. Perform day-to-day duties with the supervisor providing general guidelines regarding the nature of therapeutic activities and the program in general. Under the direction of the Physical Therapist, plans, coordinates, and administers diverse physical therapy programs. Initiate, implement, plan, and recommend progressive treatment plan with consideration of patient’s status and general health, under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist. Share technical expertise with other therapy assistants, physical therapy students and other interdisciplinary team members. Master new techniques and modality proficiency by studying current literature and conducting required research.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 5 years.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes implementing physical therapy treatment plans and instructing on physical therapy programs or providing status reports in an outpatient physical therapy setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-0636-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such asOccupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or Exercise Science. OR Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Licensure/Certification: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant from a state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States is required.
