The Phoenix VA Health Care System is recruiting for one (1) Program Support Assistant (Mammography), in the Radiology Service line; under the supervision of the current Chief of Breast Imaging. The Program Support Assistant will be an integral full-time member of the Breast Imaging Department work unit to help support the mission of the Breast Imaging Department to detect early breast cancers in Veterans receiving breast imaging examinations at the Phoenix VA.
Duties
The Program Support Assistant is responsible for all operations of the Breast Imaging Department file room (including hard copy files as well as electronic files), peripheral devices, and other computer systems and software as it relates to the Breast Imaging Department. The duties of the position involve assisting the Breast Imaging Department Team in operating, maintaining and problem solving for the Breast Imaging computer systems; obtaining external breast imaging studies, and reports in a timely fashion, which may include complex methods of research. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Upload breast imaging studies, images, and reports received from external medical facilities, and transmit them to Radiology's Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS)viewing stations (via CDs, digitized analog images, or any future method), for Breast Imaging radiologist physician review.
Creates, and maintains a detailed database of Release of Information (ROI), of external breast imaging studies.
Monitors upcoming breast imaging appointments and schedules, to recognize and retrieve internally located breast imaging studies (including Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging images) as needed.
Performs necessary steps to enter fee basis studies into the radiology package, and scan reports into the electronic medical record system to facilitates continuity of patient care.
Assists the Breast Imaging Department Team, in operating, maintaining, and problem solving for the Breast Imaging computer systems.
Provides complete, and accurate patient breast imaging data, and image files, to facilitate the early detection of breast cancer, in patients undergoing Breast Imaging Department studies at the Phoenix VA Health Care System.
Acts as an authority on a wide range of information regarding access to breast imaging files for both internal and external medical facilities.
Communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Conducts patient interviews via telephone and in person.
Requests Release of Information (ROIs) from patients, to acquire prior external breast imaging images (usually in digital format) and prior reports.
Collaborates with agents from external medical facilities via telephonic or email methods.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Occasionally, light physical effort may be required, such as that involved with walking, stair climbing, and carrying of light office items. The work is performed in an office setting which require normal safety precautions typical for offices and meeting rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Makes appointments and maintains the clinic's schedule; Conducts patient interviews via telephone and in person; Requests Release of Information (ROIs) from patients, to acquire prior external facility images (usually in digital format) and prior reports.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
