The primary purpose of this position is to plan, assign, lead operations, train and work with a crew to dearm, download, unpack, pack, inspect, troubleshoot, modify, repair, replace, upload/install, a variety of aircraft ordnance systems components such as aircraft egress and canopy jettison systems, aircraft bomb, rocket, cruise missile and special weapons launching.

Duties

Coordinates and assigns work to mechanics, providing necessary instructions and giving consideration to individual skills, certifications, training, priorities and work to be accomplished. Effectively completes tasks and work assignments on a timely basis and in accordance with Maintenance Training & Production Acceptance Certification (PAC) Program. Prepares aircraft egress and escape systems for flight. Installs and removes explosive cartridges in aircraft fire extinguishing systems in preparation for aircraft flight. Dearms and makes safe for maintenance aircraft egress and escape systems, aircraft ordnance, armament and weapons systems components in preparation for aircraft storage. Prepares aircraft armament system for flight. Plans, schedules, coordinates, and reviews work control documents to determine requirements and priorities and uses appropriate technical data.

• Employee must have completed aircrew egress systems apprentice course or have equivalent training/experience IAW AFMCI 21-108.

• Employee will be required to substitute for branch supervisor during supervisor absences.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. WORK ENVIROMENT The work is performed either inside or outside. Subject to extreme outside summer and winter desert temperatures. Exposed to hazards of electrical shock and danger from inadvertently actuated explosive components such as catapults, rocket, motors, removers, initiators, cartridges, squibs, shape charges, ammunition, etc,. Exposed to the noise of operating aircraft engines. Works with and is exposed to the fumes of hazardous chemicals such as solvents, grease, oil, paints and adhesives. Individual is exposed to potential for injuries associated with the use of common and special hand tools and equipment.
