This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Candidates with Bachelor's Degrees for Scientific and Engineering Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Construction Engineering and Research Laboratory (CERL), INFRASTRUCTURE SCIENCE & ENG DIVISION MATERIALS & STRUCTURES BRANCH.
Duties
Responsible for support to both the direct allotted research program
Assist researchers in development and implementation of electrochemical methods for emerging coatings, corrosion, and/or cathodic protection efforts
Work with senior researchers in developing novel Research and Development ideas towards funding opportunities
Implement analysis platforms as required for successful Research and Development efforts
Perform testing in accordance with applicable safety procedures
Provide support in various forms of writing such as: technical reports, conference proceedings, journal articles, sponsor reports, and other common mediums of communication.
Perform quality laboratory practice and attend to details with respect to wearing Personal Protective Equipment
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Basic Requirement for Chemist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

B.
Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
