About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Construction Engineering and Research Laboratory (CERL), INFRASTRUCTURE SCIENCE & ENG DIVISION MATERIALS & STRUCTURES BRANCH.

Duties

Responsible for support to both the direct allotted research program Assist researchers in development and implementation of electrochemical methods for emerging coatings, corrosion, and/or cathodic protection efforts Work with senior researchers in developing novel Research and Development ideas towards funding opportunities Implement analysis platforms as required for successful Research and Development efforts Perform testing in accordance with applicable safety procedures Provide support in various forms of writing such as: technical reports, conference proceedings, journal articles, sponsor reports, and other common mediums of communication. Perform quality laboratory practice and attend to details with respect to wearing Personal Protective Equipment

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Chemist DB-02 and DB-04: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for the DB-04 position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Providing support in the writing of various research and development communications such as: technical reports, conference proceedings, journal articles, or sponsor reports; Performing research testing in accordance with applicable safety procedures; and Working with various researchers in developing research and development ideas for funding. . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ChemistryOral CommunicationWriting DB-02 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent DB-01 (GS-04). DB-04 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent DB-01 (GS-11).
