You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN LEADER (EXPERT) in the of DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY. The incumbent of this position will serve as an Expert Electrician leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed. These positions are located in Shop 06. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.

Duties

You will troubleshoot, repair, modify, overhaul and test on a large variety of complex equipment, industrial plant equipment, electrical control components machinery. You will mentor, train, and instruct trade employees in a wide range of repairs on complex equipment such as motor operated valves, electric capstans, caissons, pump motor controls, and alarms. You will be required to operate trucks, barges, industrial vacuums, spill recovery equipment, forklifts, weight handling equipment and aerial work platforms. You will understand and follow troubleshooting procedures, test procedures for a wide range of complex electrical control systems. You will troubleshoot, inspect and repair components/systems including intercommunication equipment, legacy communications equipment, programmable logic control, fire alarms systems, intrusion detection systems, and magnetic lock security systems. You will troubleshoot, inspect and repair camera (fiber optics), PA systems, electronics flow meters, and one of a kind electronic roof controls, electronic monitoring systems and containment lighting systems. You will perform research and will serve as the subject matter expert to continually improve trade processes and keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies and procedures associated with electrical work. You will inspect work, identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions as well as identify cumbersome work practices, target improvement actions and develop product work books to codify efficient or best practices. You will give appropriate skills training utilizing ship training tools, such as: mock-ups, in shop work areas or facilities, as appropriate and on deck plates.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position requires the ability to climb vertical ladders working in awkward positions and entering tight spaces.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • This position requires the ability to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 40 pounds in weight.
  • This position may require exposure to high noise levels.
  • This position requires the ability to operate a government vehicle.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
