You will serve as an Electrician in the Temporary Services Shop, Production Resources Department, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Detachment-San Diego (PNSDET-SD), Point Loma Complex, San Diego, California.

Duties

You will install, operate, shift, remove, maintain, and repair various temporary electrical systems such as lights, power, ventilation, dehumidification, heating, and waterfront telephone services. You will maintain and repair shop electrical equipment. You will provide services in the repair conversion, overhaul, and construction of vessels assigned to this activity, to install and maintain all temporary electrical services. You will connect temporary power supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar and gyro equipment, supply temporary DC power to marine batteries, perform gas detection tests, and maintain, repair and connect electrical welding generators.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an Electrician, WG-2805-10 without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: Tests and identifies various temporary cables and circuits. Installs connection boxes, switches, indicator panels, and other connecting or controlling equipment for temporary electrical systems. Runs temporary power supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, and gyro equipment. Repairs various electrical equipment and appliances used aboard ship. Uses instruments such as ohmmeters, ammeters, voltmeters, phase rotation indicators, rheostats, etc. Reads and uses blueprints, specifications, sketches, and manufacturers' wiring guides.
