Employee will be assigned to Health Administration Service (HAS), VA Medical Center, Tomah, WI, Healthcare System, Des Moines, IA, providing timely and accurate filing/scanning service to facilitate the compliance with requests for information and reliability of medical information.
Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Performs accurate electronic conversion of medical documents not amendable to direct entry (i.e., advanced directives, flow-sheets, consents, etc.) and medical reports from non-VA facilities, private physician offices, and internal departments.
Indexes each captured/scanned document within the appropriate electronic document management system (EDMS) and associates it with the correct patient's Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS) record.
Opens mail and preps, scans, and indexes records for fee basis patients in the appropriate system.
Reviews and researches medical reports from non-VA health care facilities and makes a determination on which documents to scan, obtaining appropriate guidance when necessary.
Combines and/or repairs records as indicated by established guidelines to ensure that records are delivered in satisfactory condition.
Prepares files containing medical and administrative records with no activity for three years for record retirement.
Answers walk-in or telephone inquires from patients/clients, employees, volunteers, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of general experience, that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school.

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Combination of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary; however, some bending, stretching, walking, and lifting are required. Boxes of records weighing up to 50 pounds must be packaged and lifted for shipment.
