Serve as an active member of the Bonham Interdisciplinary Team providing direct care to individual veterans and veterans groups through continuous observation, reporting, documentation, educational group efforts, and follow-up with regard to the security, health, safety, and support of treatment efforts of clinical staff in the veteran's daily activities. This vacancy will remain open until filled. The first cut-off date is October 26, 2023. Additional applications will be referred as needed.

Duties

The duties of the Rehabilitation Technician for the Bonham Domiciliary Interdisciplinary Team includes but is not limited to: Utilizes rehabilitation strategies and supports the Veteran through their personal growth. Clarifies alternatives for positive independence in the rehabilitation process of the Veteran. Follows policy and procedures guidelines; assuming temporary control of situations; securing the Veteran and their environment. Exercises initiative to resolve problems and deviations in work assignments in accordance with instructions, policy, training. Secures Veteran confidence and cooperation during appointments/interactions by active listening and answering relevant questions. Responds to various emergencies in first responder role: fire; weather; external threat; medical; disruption staff and/or Veteran. Provides education sessions in an insightful and cooperative manner consistent with clinical treatment directives. Interacts with interdisciplinary treatment teams on treatment plan development, implementation and progress review. Provides accurate and pertinent information during interdisciplinary treatment team planning meetings. Exercises sound judgment to help identify Veteran treatment goals. Directs and supports the Veteran in an effort to achieve treatment goals. Accompanies Veterans to assigned programs/classes as needed. Performs continuous safety/security/cleanliness rounding of Veteran living and community areas of Domiciliary to ensure safe environment for Veteran care. Documents all relevant Veteran communications/actions via CPRS/5506 with regard to progress toward treatment goals and well-being observations. Performs intake/admissions/orientation functions for newly arrived Veterans to the Domiciliary. Supports medical personnel through specimen collections, breathalyzer, and securing of unattended medication. Work Schedule: Tour to be determined upon selection to fit the needs of the service. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/29/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: For a Rehabilitation Technician at the GS-6 level, applicants must have at least (2) Two year of General Experience and (2) Two years of Specialized Experience. General Experience: Experience involved in dealing with others which has demonstrated the applicant's aptitude for acquiring the skills and knowledges needed for medical rehabilitation work. For example, experience that demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective person-to-person relationships, skill in oral and written communication, ability to inspire confidence and motivate individuals, and capacity for leadership is qualifying as general experience. This experience may have been gained in positions concerned with health care, counseling, social service, teaching, business, or other similar fields. Specialized Experience: This is experience which has demonstrated the knowledge, skill and ability: to assist professional personnel in effective operation of a rehabilitation treatment program for alcohol or drug-dependent patients; to act as a liaison and intermediary between patients and professional personnel; to understand and cope with the physical and psychological needs of these patients; and to guide and assist patients in following a prescribed treatment program. This experience must also have demonstrated that the applicant possesses knowledges, skills and abilities which enable the applicant to understand the problems, actions, reactions and symptoms of alcohol or drug-dependent persons and is able to relate to, empathize with, communicate with, motivate, and influence changes in behavior patterns of alcohol or drug-dependent patients. For eligibility at grades GS-6 and above, at least 1 year of the required specialized experience must have been comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade in the Federal service, or 2 years comparable to the second lower grade in the Federal service. For any grade, the required amount of experience and education will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The candidate's total record of experience and education must show that the candidate has the ability to perform the duties of the position to be filled. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Critical Thinking Technical Competance Communications Forward Thinking Interpersonal Effectiveness Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires regularly walking through the 65,000 sq. ft. Domiciliary facility, with additional walking requirements throughout the remainder of the medical center to facilitate patient programming, meetings, training, and other administrative tasks as may be required. Walking the exterior of the Domiciliary facility is necessary for security rounds. Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing of moderately heavy items such as boxes and/or carts weighing up to 30 lbs.
