The incumbent is a supervisor of a group of non-supervisory personnel in the Maintenance and Repair Section of the Engineering Service. Incumbent reports to the Chief of Maintenance and Repair and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work done and for assuring efficient and economical use of manpower assigned.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Assigns, directs, and reviews the work of subordinates and evaluates their work performance. Plans, schedules, and coordinates work operations Determines material, equipment, and facilities needed. Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, directions, methods, and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Instructs subordinates on difficult work operations. Schedules and approves leave requests. Sets performance expected of subordinates and makes formal appraisals of their work performance. Maintain production reports and records. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: It is necessary that the incumbent demonstrate, instruct and train subordinate employees in all areas under his/her supervision. Due to the variety of sudden changes and demands in these trades, the incumbent must be physically able to perform. Considerable walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching and working overhead are a part of the job. Must be physically able to lift and move heavy equipment such as ladders, scaffolds, and lumber. The incumbent is exposed to the same working conditions as all of his/her employees. Work is performed inside and outside where the incumbent is subject to extremes of heat and cold. He/She is subject to possible injury from working with power tools, erection of scaffolds, working on ladders, etc. At times, the work area is dusty and dirty, and there is a hazard of getting foreign matter in the eye. The incumbent must keep abreast of all safety rules and regulations.
