The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation (BGSF) was established by Congress in 1986 to honor the service of Senator Barry Goldwater and to identify, encourage, and financially support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming the nation's next generation of research leaders in science, engineering, and mathematics (Public Law 99-661). Over its 35-year history, the Foundation has recognized over 10,000 students as Goldwater Scholars.
Duties
Oversees and facilitates the efficient daily operation of the Foundation. Assists the President of the Foundation in getting things done through knowledge of and skill in dealing with organizations, methods, funds, people, equipment, and other tools or resources of management.
Facilitates implementation of decisions made by the President of the Foundation and ensures that the decisions are reflected in legislative and policy proposals and in directives. Provides expert technical advice in carrying out a variety of important and critical assignments in the areas of fellowships, scholarships, etc.
Monitors and evaluates administrative activities to provide efficient and effective support for the Foundation's mission and to provide advice and technical assistance to various personnel on a wide variety of administrative program areas. Makes recommendations for program and procedural improvements.
Provides critical analysis of pressing issues and required recommendations. Serves as a troubleshooter for the Foundation on a diverse range of issues, projects or concerns requiring an overview of the total operation with respect to resolving significant, controversial, and/or otherwise highly charged situations.
Interacts with campus representatives, students, parents, members of Congress and their staffs and other interested parties, providing guidance, approvals and program statistics, as necessary.
Qualifications
You must meet the following qualification requirement: have at least one year of specialized work experience. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of this position and has equipped you with the knowledge and competencies to successfully perform the duties of this position. More specifically, this requirement involves experience in (1) providing technical advice in critical assignments in areas of fellowships and scholarships for students and scholarship advisors, and financial aid officers; (2) evaluating methods and techniques on the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations; and (3) maintaining all systems that relate to storage, retrieval, and disposition of all documents related to the operation.
