Duties
This position serves as a Range Technician for the West Desert District.
Identifies needed range improvements.
Inspects grazing allotments for compliance.
Works under the guidance and direction of rangeland management specialists to conduct monitoring studies.
Assists in preparation of grazing lease and permits and in other range administration matters.
Implements a variety of weed management activities, plans, and proposals for the respective organization.
Operates and maintains weed treatment equipment and supplies (UTVs, Herbicide sprayers, hand tools, chainsaws, and herbicides).
Serves as a point of contact for the office’s Integrated Weed Management (IWM) Program.
Initiates and conducts range inventory surveys according to accepted standards and techniques.
Plans and conducts range use supervision and allotment inspections within area of responsibility.
Serves as a crew leader for various range projects.
Conducts monitoring studies and determines the need for range and watershed improvements.
Requirements

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-07 level you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level equivalent in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of a Range Technician. Qualifying specialized experience includes: utilizing GIS and GPS technologies for field data collection; knowledge of livestock and livestock practices; utilize various types of computer programs and software applications and ability to read maps.
OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have one (1) full year (18 semester hours) of graduate-level education in a related field of study.
Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the difficulty and complexity to do the work of this position.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentary when completing duties in the office to frequent field work requiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending, and lifting.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air-conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The incumbent carefully adheres to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
