This position is located the Albuquerque IHS Dental Clinic (AIDC) which is located on the campus of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The dental program provides emergent, preventive, educational and corrective dental services to all eligible patients. The purpose of the position is to serve as the Deputy Clinic Director and to provide dental health services to the designated population in accordance with Indian Health Service policies.
Duties
Perform a full range of professional dental duties in the treatment of commonly encountered dental health problems requiring standard and advance corrective, restorative, or preventive measures.
Develops patient treatment plans and referral of patients for necessary medical evaluation or specialty care if beyond the scope of general dental practices; ensuring the patients understand the proposed treatment plan.
Responsible for meeting all quality improvement and compliance requirements as described in HHS, IHS and AAAHC directives, rules and regulations, and policies, including all quality improvement activities and projects.
Supervise and train dental ancillary personnel assigned. Provide technical guidance and direction of dental assistant(s) on a one-to-one basis.
Assist the Clinic Director and Chief Executive Officer in developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the quality, quantity, and direction of resources.
Provides direct supervision for Lead Dental Assistants and Dental Assistants
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education:
Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure:
Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
GS-12:
In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at lease one (1) year of professional dentistry experience, this experience is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
