The primary purpose of this position is to provide full performance level work in constructing, installing, repairing, modifying wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit/structural soundness, performing full range of roofing repair to include, but not limited to, tearing-off old roofing, sheeting, shingling, truss work, leak detection.
Duties
Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the construction and maintenance of installation facilities.
Performs work involved in the maintenance, installation, repair, and weatherproofing of roof.
Following clear-cut work orders and instructions from supervisors or higher-grade worker, performs masonry task involved in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of interior and exterior surfaces and structures.
Independently applies skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Uses and maintains tools.

- May be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous material. Exposure to toxic paints, chemicals, or other hazards may require occupational health examinations.
- Exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air. fumes, and hazards associated with carpentry, painting, and roofing trades.
- May be exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders and are subject to cuts, bruises, and contusions; may occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones
- May work in confined areas, such as crawl spaces and attics that may be dusty and dirty. Working with asphalt results in exposure to unusually dirty conditions (permanent damage to clothes and shoes) and bums from hot asphalt.
- Uses protective devices, such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, safety shoes, hard hats, coveralls, gloves, rain gear, and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
- Lifts/ moves up to 40 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Frequently requires lifting up to 100 pounds while carrying rolls of roofing felt, shingles, and asphalt.
- Requires considerable bending, kneeling, stooping. On-site work requires crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolds, roof tops. Uses hand and power tools and equipment that require standing and holding tools uncomfortably for extended periods.
- The work may be at extreme heights (such as water towers or tall buildings). Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as sheets of plywood and other construction materials.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 - General Maintenance And Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the positions without more than normal supervision

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
