You will serve as a MAINTENENCE MECHANIC in the SUSTAINMENT AND ASSET MANAGEMENT DIVISION, FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIRECTORATE of UNIF SRVS UNI OF THE HLTH SCI.
Duties
You will provide maintenance mechanic tasks involving air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, plumbing carpentry, and electrical systems and components.
You will provide air conditioning duties with heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating.
You will repair and maintain refrigeration regarding low temperature freezers, ice machine, water fountains, and other refrigeration equipment associated with research equipment.
You will perform plumbing duties such as water closets, utility, supply, and disposal systems.
You will perform carpentry duties involving alteration, repair, or modification of items and structures.
You will utilize advanced shop mathematics to plan, execute and complete projects.
You will install and repair electrical systems are used to condition and service spaces containing laboratories, administrative offices, and animal holding areas.
You will perform electrical duties with installation, modification, and repair of electrical systems.
You will conduct visual, audible and mechanical checks for proper temperature of conditioned spaces, proper oil levels, unusual noises, overheated bearings, loose connections, faulty insulation, and frayed or loose belts, gaskets and pulleys.
You will tighten connections, insulate exposed wires, and clean and lubricate moving parts, test for proper connections and replace items such as belts, fans and fuses.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position requires applicant to lift up to 50 pounds.
- This position requires conducting repairs and installation from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places.
